What is 'scaling' of consumption profiles and when should I scale a consumption profile?

If you have your customer's interval metering data, you can upload the metering data, which you can re-use later: How do I upload my customer's interval metering data? This provides the most accurate assessment possible.

What's more, we provide you with consumption profiles from many industries and households. So you can re-use consumption profiles from a similar customer, rather than waiting weeks for metering data. How do I load a consumption profile from my library?

If you don't have real life data, you may want to specify average consumption and scale the data in order to match your customer's daily average use.

Here you will learn how to scale the consumption profile in PVsell and what scaling methods you can apply.

You can scale the consumption profile if you're not able to upload meter data – so that it matches very closely with your customer's actual consumption profile (or overall consumption as listed on their bill).

For example you may not have interval metering data for a customer but you've loaded in a trading-non/trading consumption profile for a similar customer, so you need to scale your old customer's data to match the total consumption of your new customer.

1. Open the project's 'Consumption' tab

2. In the 'Average Daily Consumption' options field, select the desired scaling method

2.1. FROM BILL

Note!

If you've used the 'Fast' method of tariff entry on the 'Bill' tab, you should select the 'Override' option. The 'Fast' tariff entry doesn't provide us with kWh on the bill. Please use the 'override' scaling method to enter the kWh from the bill.

Alternatively, you can use the 'Detailed' method of tariff entry on your project's 'Bill' tab and be able to use the average daily consumption 'From Bill'.

2.1.1. Click 'From Bill'

2.1.2. Enter the number of days in the bill

By default, it's 30 in the 'No. Days In Bill' field.

The average consumption per day will be calculated automatically.

2.2. or FROM CONSUMPTION PROFILE

2.2.1. Click 'From Consumption Profile', and the average consumption per day will be calculated automatically

2.3.1. Click 'Override'

2.3.2. Enter your customer's average daily consumption

Enter your customer's average daily consumption from the bill. This should be entered in kWh per day.

For example, if your customer uses an average of 50 kWh/day then you may wish to enter '50' here.

While adjusting a consumption profile, you may also wish to consider export limiting

If you apply export limiting, any excess solar produced (outside of instant consumption) is dropped. Note that applying export limiting will affect PVsell output figures including solar production among other things.
